LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS:
Level I : Students new to yoga, yogi returning from an injury or one looking to refresh the basics. Focus is on alignment and basic safety tips while developing a solid understanding of the basics.
Level I/II : A faster paced class appropriate both for new students and for those who have a foundation in yoga.
Level II : For ongoing yoga students already comfortable with the basics who desire to explore a wider range of poses.
Level II/III : For continuing students with experience in yoga, more difficult poses, including inversions and backbends, may be explored.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
Chair Yoga:Chair yoga adapts all kinds of yoga poses for sitting in an armless chair. For whatever reason you are unable to sit, stand or lie on floor mat, this gentle practice offers a practical option for achieving the same results as doing regular yoga poses. Not only is it helpful for the elderly or those with weight issues, arthritis, diabetes, heart or lung disease, osteoporosis or multiple sclerosis, chair yoga also provides a chance to practice at the office, during a train or bus commute or on an airplane.
Yoga Therapeutics: Connect with individual empowerment and create the ability to lead life to its fullest potential. Address physical alignment, psychological thought process and energy levels as a skillful way to expand from within while learning to prevent, recover or manage health conditions; such as, stress-related health disorders and chronic pain. Experience the benefits with the use of proper alignment techniques; balance of strength & flexibility of the mind and body; and positive connection with self and others. Find inner strength, create outer grace and heal from the inside out. Learn to incorporate the discipline of yoga during moments off of the yoga mat. Each participant will be given the opportunity to challenge their edge while remaining safe and true to the self. Class is appropriate for all levels–from participants in search of a holistic approach to healing to yoga enthusiasts who want to refine their current practice.
Foundations:Learn the tools for a lifelong yoga practice including asana, pranayama and meditation to inspire a deeper connection with self and others. This class is optimal for students with little or no background in yoga, and also those who wish to deepen their knowledge of alignment and structural details within the postures. (Level 1)
Gentle Yoga/Restorative: Gentle yoga is open to anyone. We practice traditional yoga postures and modifications to build strength, flexibility,balance and inner-awareness. This class is suitable for beginners, people recovering from injury, people returning to yoga practice after a prolonged break, seniors and people who are not particularly flexible. Explore the benefits of yoga and learn correct alignment in a safe, supportive atmosphere. Relax, renew, restore!
Gentle Flow: Based on the same principles as Gentle Yoga/Restorative, Gentle Yoga incorporates more strength-building and challenging poses with minimal flow. Practitioners are encouraged to work at their own level and rest when needed. Beginners welcome. This class is not heated. 75 degrees (Level 1/2)
Flow (vinyasa): This class emphasizes the integration of asana (movement) with breath and meditation. Classes are designed to cultivate and strengthen the mind/body connection and promote wellness. Move gracefully through a flow linking together physical, mental, and spiritual qualities into one grounded practice. Awareness of breath is the focus as you are lead through sun salutations (suryanamaskar), standing poses, inversions, backbends, and hip openers depending upon level of class. Meditative Yoga: The focus of this class is to drop beneath the surface of our daily tension into the peace and stillness within us. Using slow stretches, gentle yoga postures and fluid movements in concert with the breath, we promote a balanced state of mental and physical well-being. Without stress or strain, we tone and rejuvenate the muscular and nervous systems, activate and energize the chakras, massage the glands and organs and purify the mind and body. Note: Students are lying on the floor for the majority of the class.
Ashtanga: Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a traditional set of postures created by Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois. The word “vinyasa” literally means “breath connected with movement”. In this class you will learn to connect your breath with all of your movements. It creates strength, flexibility and vitality in the body.
Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga w/baby: Both during and after pregnancy yoga is a perfect way to gain peace of mind, patience and flexibility and reduce stress during the exciting time surrounding the birth of your child.This class is a wonderful way to connect with other new mothers and mothers-to-be in a supportive and healthy environment. Appropriate for all stages of pregnancyeir babies and for moms and their babies, ages 6 weeks-precrawling.
Yoga Warrior: The Yoga Warrior method skillfully integrates concepts from yoga therapy, traditional yoga philosophy, psychology and sensory integration theory with current scientific knowledge of the mind-body connection to promote health wellness and peace of mind from within. This class specifically helps individuals with PTSD, COSR and TBI. This class is not heated. (Not listed on class schedule- please make inquiries to Michelle).
Partners Yoga: A fun, easy going practice of yoga to spend with your spouse, friend or child!! Great for encouraging communication and trust in one another! Moves are done with your partner.
Yoga for Athletes: All athletes (golfers, tennis, runners’,etc) A 60 minute non-heated class focused on the athlete’s body. Lots of work on balance, gaining flexibility and mobility and whole-body strength. Everyone is welcome!
Hot Yoga: Our signature classes offer the same consistent set of poses completed in the same order every time so you always know what to expect. The series is ideal for students wishing to gain strength while detoxifying the body. The postures in the series work every major muscle group, and are held for three to six breaths each (up to a minute). This class is not a flow. Rather, the emphasis is on finding a place of stillness and holding each pose. For this reason, these classes are ideal for beginner and intermediate practitioners exploring a heated, as well as the experienced yogi who enjoys a steady, structured practice. Hot Yoga classes are heated to 90-95 degrees.
